eazy CEO Douglas Chia featured in Top Gear Singapore Article about Supercar Ownership

In a Top Gear article, eazy CEO Douglas Chia questions, “How young is too young to drive a supercar in Singapore?” Douglas proposes that supercar drivers should be subjected to tiered licensing – a similar concept to earning a license to drive ever more powerful motorcycles.

While current regulations permit anyone who can afford to purchase a sports car, possesses a valid driver's license, and is insured to drive such a vehicle, this system does not consider the driver's ability to control these high-performance machines.

Notably, for insurance purposes, sports cars and similar vehicles are typically covered on a named driver basis, meaning that you must be specifically added as a named driver to be covered under the insurance policy.

Even with 20 years driving experience, Douglas was challenged both mentally and physically when driving on a controlled race track. It raises concerns that young and inexperienced drivers may have access to these powerful vehicles on public roads.

In recent years, there has been a trend of younger individuals owning (and driving) supercars, and some parents have added their children to their sports car policies immediately upon their child obtaining their driver's license.

The tiered licensing proposed by Douglas would be applied to performance cars, and could potentially facilitate a smoother transition for new drivers from the econobox in which they passed their initial driving test to progressively more powerful cars.
